We have mentioned many times in previous articles that aluminum sulfate can play a coagulation effect in water treatment. If the water temperature is so low, can coagulation still achieve the original effect? Let's find out whether low temperature will affect the coagulation effect.
The concentration added in sewage treatment is generally 10% concentration. When the water temperature is 0 degrees Celsius, its hydrolysis rate is only 2/3-1/2 of that at 10 degrees Celsius. And foreign related tests also show that as the water temperature increases by 10 °C, its reaction rate will be 1-2 times higher.
This is because the lower the temperature of the water, the greater the viscosity will be, which will increase the settling resistance. It is difficult for the suspended particles in the water and the flocs formed after the hydrolysis of aluminum sulfate to settle, which will slow down the speed. On the other hand, when the water temperature is low, the material of the water body will increase, and the shear force of the water flow will increase accordingly. When the water flow is stirred, the formed flocculation will also be impacted, and then become broken, loose, and flocculated. Not easy to settle.
Moreover, when the water temperature is low, the potential of the particles in the water is relatively high, and the repulsive reaction between the particles is relatively large, which will increase the repulsive force and the mutual repulsion is relatively serious; and when the water temperature is low, the Brownian formed by the aluminum hydroxide particles in the water is relatively large. When the kinetic energy of motion is reduced, the material hysteresis of water will also be enhanced; in addition, when the water temperature is low, a layer of water film is easily adhered around the particles with adsorption effect, which will also hinder the progress of coagulation.
Through the above introduction, we have learned that low temperature will indeed affect the coagulation effect of aluminum sulfate. The water temperature is within a certain range, and the higher the temperature, the better the reaction effect.
